Remembering to Move Around

On the days when I’m the busiest, I sit a lot. As a freelancer, it’s way more than I’d be in my seat if I worked in an office.

I don’t have to get up to walk to meetings. I don’t have anyone to wander over and talk to when I need a break. I sit to work, to talk, to eat my lunch. There are days when my FitBit barely squeaks over 5,000 steps because all the walking I’ve done is during my 30 minutes on the treadmill.

Looking at this question while I type out the headline, I can’t help but laugh. I know it’s a question a lot of freelancers have, but the thing is, freelancers set their own hours. This could mean each week is different, it could mean workaholics put in way more time than those who are good at setting boundaries.

A Personal Update

To be perfectly honest, I really never thought I’d make it as a freelancer. There’s so much uncertainty around the role, so many worries about income, I didn’t, at the beginning, see how I could make this work.

Fast forward a little over five years. I’m still at it, with a growing client list, and a growing bank account. I’m even working for an actual journalistic publication, which makes my college degree so very happy.
